Amazon.com Product Description Britax International has been manufacturing innovative, industry-leading child products for over three decades. Their dedication to safety, comfort, and convenience is certainly apparent in this convertible car seat. Parents will love being able to effortlessly secure baby in the Decathlon, and the peace of mind that comes with Britax's renowned attention to safety standards. Baby will love that the Decathlon is comfortable from day one, and adjusts to stay that way as baby grows. Safety first is a good rule of thumb, and one that Britax certainly heeds. The Decathlon offers features you might find on many other car seats, such as convertibility, a five-point harness, and the LATCH system. But Britax went above and beyond the norm when creating the functional and fashionable Decathlon car seat. | | One-pull harness strap adjuster makes for a quick, easy, and snug fit every time. | The five-point harness system is made with strong polyester webbing, fits snugly over baby's shoulders, collarbone and hips to provide a secure fit, and the straps are designed to remain tangle free. A patented "floating" HUGS (Harness Ultra Guard) system better distributes the webbing loads, reducing head movement and minimizing harness irritation on baby's neck in case of an impact. Plus, HUGS reduces the chance of improperly positioning the chest clip. There is also a three-position crotch strap on the Decathlon that can be adjusted as baby grows, keeping the seat as comfortable as it was on day one. This is especially useful for toddlers who are consistently at the top of the growth chart. Located near a vehicle's seatbelts, factory installed anchor points provide a secure and easy LATCH connection. In conjunction with this push-button release system, the Decathlon also offers Britax's Versa-Tether, an anchor aid that works both rear- and forward-facing and prevents the seat from tilting in the event of an impact. The Versa-Tether fastens the top of the car seat to factory installed automobile anchor points, minimizing the possibility of a head injury. But wait! There's more! Whether your vehicle is LATCH compatible or not, the Decathlon provides built-in lock-off clips that keep the seat tightly in place when using only traditional seatbelts for installation. There's a simple handle pull that allows the car seat to be easily reclined. The one-pull harness strap adjuster makes for a quick, easy, and snug fit every time. Newborns are guaranteed a smooth ride thanks to an infant positioning system, comfy padding, and belly pad. Older children will appreciate the removable toddler head pillow and soft fabric cover, which is removable and washable. The Decathlon is Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 213 compliant, making it approved for airplane use as well. | | A simple handle pull allows the car seat to be reclined when rear-facing. | The Decathlon's versatile, sculpted base means it will easily fit in almost every car, and can be positioned correctly every time. The car seat measures 19.5"W x 25.5"H x 24"D and weighs 20 pounds when empty. Since car seats are mandated by law, it's nice to know that Britax is at least making the decision simple. The Decathlon is comfortable for baby on long drives, easy for parents to work when running everyday errands, available in a range of colors and patterns, and, most importantly, safe! Comparing Britax Car Seats If you're debating between the Britax Decathlon and the Britax Marathon, there are two differences. First, the Decathlon offers additional padding for newborns with an infant positioning system. Second, the Decathlon has an adjustable three-position crotch strap, making it more comfortable for toddlers consistently at the top of their height percentage. If you've narrowed it down to the Britax Decathlon and the Britax Boulevard (which have the same weight and height capacity), here are a few differences to help you decide. The Boulevard does not have the adjustable crotch strap or the no-thread shoulder strap harness adjuster. However, the Boulevard does feature Side Impact Protection (SIP) with the addition of supportive 'wings' in the headrest.

Great Carseat for tall toddler October 27, 2008 Honestly, I wish I had gone with this carseat from the beginning, instead of the infant seat (which I could only use about 4 months). It's held up really well, my son is 3.5 and he's really tall for his age, and he still seems comfortable. One thing to note that if you are using this seat in rear-facing mode it's really large (which is ok for me in Jeep, not so ok in the Chrysler PT). Once it's forward facing, it wasn't a problem in the car either. It's held up, I've washed the cover in the machine and it came out perfectly.
Great carseat October 20, 2008 Great product, my 4 month old fits in it great. The only drawback is that there is no level to tell you if the carseat is installed at the right angle. Other than that great!!
The Sahara material is horrible, and the buckle is so sticky August 4, 2008 We had 2 Decathlons (Tiffany and Hampton prints) for my daughter, and I loved them. The material is plush, the buckles are easy to click in, and they are just nice seats. I bought 2 more in Sahara for my son, and it STINKS. The material is so flimsy that it feels like some cheapo thing without padding and the buckles stick when trying to click in or out. Had I know that the material was different, I would never have purchased this pattern. Shouldn't the material be the same quality over all their carseat fabrics??? What a waste of money since I now have to buy different covers. I won't have my son sitting in what feels like flamable material for the next 4 or 5 years.
Horrible Adjuster Strap July 7, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Pros: crotch strap has 3 settings. Cons: too hard to adjust strap, cover doesn't come off. Recently spent months and months researching car seats for my growing son. I finally decided on the Decathlon - even though I had heard bad reviews regarding the adjuster strap. I had tried it out in my local baby store and had no problems so I felt it safe to go ahead and purchase it. Big mistake - once the car seat is installed, it's next to impossible to get the adjuster strap positioned correctly. I have a large SUV and even with the roomy interior, you can't pull it hard enough without being a contortionist. I even read the Britax FAQ advising to make sure you're pulling straight out (not from a side angle) and to make sure the strap isn't twisted and so on. Even so, both my husband and myself could not get it positioned properly without breaking a sweat. Also, I didn't realize that since the new model has a push button control for the strap, it's sewn to the fabric, therefore you can't take it off and wash it. I have since returned it and am desperately looking to find something equally as safe but easier to use. I loved the fact that the crotch position was adjustable - unlike the other Britax models. I wish they could combine the good things into just one car seat!
Stay away if you have a two door car July 1, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I drive a '03 Sunfire and this car seat fits HORRIBLE in it! It's nothing but a 100% pain and so I am returning it. I haven't had it for over 24 hours and I already want to throw it out window. It's hard to tighten the straps because the car seat in rear facing is jammed into the seat. Even the firemen that put it in for me told me to take it back because it was not going to make me happy. Sure enough they were right.
